Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District (LBL ESD) is committed to protecting the privacy of student education records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, Oregon Revised Statutes, and Oregon Administrative Rules. FERPA is a federal law that affords parents and eligible students (those 18 years of age or older) certain rights regarding their education records. Under FERPA, parents and eligible students have the right to:
- Inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days of the day the district receives a request for access.
- Request amendments to records they believe to be inaccurate, misleading, or in violation of the student’s privacy rights.
- Provide written consent before the district discloses personally identifiable information from the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
- File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the district to comply with FERPA requirements.
LBL ESD may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” without written consent, unless a parent or eligible student has advised the district to the contrary. Parents and eligible students have the right to opt-out of the release of directory information by notifying the district in writing.
