At Linn Benton Lincoln ESD, we understand that effective communication is fundamental to student learning and development. Our Cascade Regional AAC services are designed to support students aged 5-21 in Linn, Benton, and Lincoln counties who experience significant difficulties with verbal communication.
Empowering Student Voices
The goal of our AAC department is to empower students with complex communication needs by providing alternative and augmentative systems that enhance their ability to functionally communicate in educational and daily activities. Our AAC specialists work closely with school staff to create and support communication opportunities throughout the school day, infusing communication training into daily routines and tasks.
Eligibility and Referral Process
Students may be eligible for AAC services if they reside in Linn, Benton, or Lincoln counties, have an existing special education program, and demonstrate significant difficulty communicating, requiring a specialized system to support their educational program. The school-based speech-language pathologist (SLP) must be part of the referring team and concur with the need for AAC services.
Comprehensive Support Services
Our AAC specialists offer a range of services to support student communication, including:
- Evaluations for AAC services
- Assistance in developing and implementing communication systems
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting equipment and software
- Preparation of adapted materials
- Consultative services for school teams, parents, and other agencies
Through collaborative partnerships with schools and families, we strive to create inclusive learning environments where every student’s voice can be heard and valued.
